The Authors : 

Katharina Hesse is a Beijing-based photographer who has worked throughout Asia for nearly two decades. Her photography focuses primarily on China’s social concerns among them youth, urban culture, religion and North Korean refugees.  

Ms. Hesse began her work in Asia as an assistant for German television (ZDF). In 1996, she started working in Newsweek’s Beijing bureau and subsequently participated in numerous cover projects. From 2003 to 2006 she covered China for Getty Images. Her work has been prominent in various publications including: Courrier International, Der Spiegel, D della Repubblica, EYEmazing, FT magazine, Zeit Magazin, Glamour (Germany), IO Donna, Die Zeit, Marie-Claire, Le Monde, Le Monde Diplomatique,Neon , 100Eyes.org , Reporters without borders, Stern, TIME, Vanity Fair (Italy & Germany), the Wall Street Journal and Wired (Italy).

Lara Day is a Hong Kong­born writer based in Bangkok. She holds degrees from the University of Oxford and the University of Arts London, and completed postgraduate studies in Creative Writing at the University of Hong Kong under the supervision of U.S. National Book Award winner Shirley Geok-Lim. Books she has edited include World Press Photo Award winner Michael Wolf’s “Hong Kong: Front Door/Back Door” and “Fotolog.book”, both published by Thames & Hudson.
